Judge Solomon stepped down as a superior court judge in 2020 after more than twenty-four years on the bench. At that time, he was serving as the only judge in Connecticut dedicated full time to the Judicial Branch’s Mediation Center where, on a daily basis, he mediated complex family cases arising from every judicial district in the State of Connecticut. Judge Solomon came to the Mediation Center after serving almost six years as the Deputy Chief Court Administrator for the Connecticut Judicial Branch. His experience in that capacity, together with earlier service as the presiding judge of the family courts in the Hartford, New London and Tolland judicial districts, made him acutely aware of the need for a dedicated mediator for those family cases which didn’t lend themselves to the process, schedule and available resources of our family courts.
Judge Solomon’s practice is generally limited to ADR engagements in family matters and only those cases in which the parties are represented by counsel. The effective mediation or arbitration of family cases requires the involvement of a third party who not only has substantial ADR experience and expertise, but one who also has substantial family court experience, understands the financial complexities of family cases and is sensitive to the emotional aspects and family dynamics which these cases present. Judge Solomon’s extensive experience as a family court jurist and family law practitioner uniquely qualifies him to provide that assistance. In addition to mediation and arbitration, additional services provided by Judge Solomon include case evaluation and discovery master appointments.
One of the benefits that ADR offers is flexibility in scheduling. Judge Solomon is available wherever and, subject to other scheduling, whenever counsel and the clients may choose. Fees are established at the time of inquiry.
